If you’re having problems with your blog, read on. Thank you to Dully, Lilly, Ava, Lexi, John, Justin and other students for helping share these issues that you may run into while submitting tonight’s BlogWork.

Q. My blog post is not p
A. If you wrote your post and then found out that it isn’t visible by others. Your site needs to be “launched.” First, make sure you have confirmed your email address with WordPress. Check your spam folder for an email that says “Activate
Try clearing the cache (or trying an incognito browser) and on a different browser and cutting and pasting the link from the activation email.
If it doesn’t work, try registering for a new free website. Try following the walkthrough of how to “confirm your email address” and “launch the site.” Check out the whole playlist for configuring your blog to specifications. Another thing to try — ask another student.
You’ll know when its public when you can see your post link using an “incognito browser” window (File->New Incognito Window” in Chrome.)
Q. Where is my public link needed for the BlogWork submission form?

A. After you site has been “Launched” (see above), and you have created your post. The public link is also called a “permalink.” After you click Publish on the upper right, a “View Post” link appears. You can also copy this “permalink” under the “gear” icon (upper right next to the Publish button.) The link should begin with your site domain (e.g. yoursitename.wordpress.com). Check that you’ve got all the things on the BlogWork checklist. Then, to submit your BlogWork: fill out the survey form with this link, checkoff all checklist items, your RWU email address, and click submit. You should receive an email copy of your BlogWork submission.
Q. I can’t see comments on my published blog post. What do I do?
A. Try changing the Site Theme to another theme. Twenty Twenty-One should work, as it is the vanilla WordPress Template. The menu is under Appearance->Themes.
Q. Do I have to pay for WordPress?

A. No. You should be able to sign up for a free WordPress blog (see above). It turns out that after you click “Blog” sometimes it will say “continue to free site” and other times it won’t have that option. Read carefully to always pick the option for “free” not “Free with paid plan” and try again. You can get a .blog site instead of a .com site.
Q. How do I get good quality pictures of my sketchbook drawings?
A. Use a camera and photograph you sketch in daylight (or even light) if you can. Use your phone to take a front view photo of your sketchbook, straight on with as little skew as possible. A high resolution image (at least 1MP) with minimal blur is important– if it is too blurry I will not grade it. I need to click and zoom in on the images so I can see fine details. Be sure the image is framed properly. Make it look professional. Apple’s Notes app has a good document scanner, just add a note with the Camera setting. I believe there are also free scanner apps in Android.
Q. How do I put images into my blog?
A. First take a great picture (see above). Then, transfer the photos onto your WordPress site. (You can move photos to a folder on your computer using a US
Q. How do I know how many words I have in my post?
A. Click the i inside the circle on the upper left of your post editor.

Q. Where can I find more information on setting up my blog?
A. I made a list of tutorial videos you may find helpful. To access RWU’s LinkedIn portal, you need to login with your username@academics.rwu. LinkedIn has a series called “WordPress Essential Training.” Also, feel free to search YouTube, email me , ask another student who’s already done it. Office hours are always available, too.
