Dear Visual Artists, This week’s blogWork challenge consists of creating comic advertisements based on what excites you. We deviate from the regular readings to cover some tools for visualizing logic in order to design our blogWorks. These visualization tools have helped me through all types of personal and professional projects. Venn diagrams can help to deduce logical outcomes, brainstorm or invent new products, and keep ideas organized. Flow charts help you break down a process into a series of steps— use it to imagine how someone will use the product, conduct a job search, or plan their work. Flow charts are like wordless diagrams that use a language of specific shapes. These two visual tools will be used along with McCloud narrative transitions and text-image juxtapositions to explore different storytelling techniques.
I’m sending this early for Monday’s sketch participation, I’m asking for 3 small works of art: 1) a text-image juxtaposition using fruit, 2) a rebus puzzle, and 3) a wacky food ad. We’re having all sections start at 5:25pm because there’s so much to cover. Remember to upload your sketches to the photo album. Bring your creativity and have a great weekend! Don’t forget the quiz– only two left!
Looking forward to seeing you soon! — Prof. Chang
