Please see the email below announcing that RWU President Miaoulis has designated today (3/11/21) as an official study break day. Instead of having class, please spend some time on relaxation and celebrating wherever you are. Look for the early signs of spring (crocuses and daffodils pushing up from the ground, flower buds on the trees) on a walk away from screens. Take care of yourselves, get sunshine on the skin, breathe in fresh air. Have bbq dinner if you’re on campus.
Don’t forget Route Map BlogWorks are still due tonight at 11:59pm! If people request, I can be available online during class time today.
Have a great day off! If anyone wants to meet, please email and we can meet online about any topic. Otherwise see you Monday! — Prof. Chang

Dear RWU Bristol faculty and undergraduate students,
Today is your surprise Study Break Day! We are canceling all in-person and remote classes for our undergraduate students and faculty on the Bristol campus throughout today.
This day provides a break from our busy schedules to practice self-care for our mental health and well-being. With sunny skies and 60-plus degrees forecast, we have lots of fun and safely distanced events planned for you to get outside and enjoy our beautiful campus. Here is a look at the activities in store today:
- Throughout the day, get outdoors for a game of basketball at the court near North Res Hall or the Cedar Court; hit the sand volleyball court at North Res; play disc golf starting with first tee near the bridge between MNS and GHH, or a tennis game at the courts near Bayside from morning until 1 p.m. MASKS REQUIRED!
- The pool in the Campus Rec Center will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., we will be serving free kettle corn on the quad!
- Painting, anyone? Free painting kits available to the first 50 students from 10 a.m. to noon, Room 206 in the Recreation Center.
- Easy to Do Progressive Muscle Relaxation virtual session, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., with Dr. Christopher Bailey
Join meeting: https://zoom.us/j/98621993648?pwd=M2hzNENoc25adjBWTE1ZM2gzTzNPZz09
Meeting ID: 986 2199 3648 Passcode: 406887 - And for dinner, we’re serving up barbecue outdoors on the quad, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. We will have a smoker slow-cooking up a variety of barbecue meats and vegetarian options! And… perhaps chicken tenders will make a surprise appearance today!
While this is an opportunity for undergraduate students and faculty to focus on wellness and renewal, both campuses will remain open and we expect you to keep your regularly scheduled Covid testing appointment or any scheduled resource appointments with the Counseling Center, Health Services, Student Conduct, Tutoring or Center for Student Academic Success.
Some labs and courses will also still be happening, where students are needed to continue their care of animals or work on ongoing research experiments. Your professor will have already communicated with you expectations of needing to hold class, lab or work during Study Break Day. If you are a work study student, please contact your supervisor directly related to your scheduled shift and any options available.
I am so excited to join you in these activities and this opportunity to come together as a community. I’ll see you out on the quad!
Sincerely,
Yannis
